The Terminology of Amigurumi:

  • St(s): Stitch(es)
  • SS: Slip Stitch
  • SC: Single Crochet – Insert hook in stitch stated, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through both loops
  • DC: Double Crochet – Yarn over, insert hook in stitch stated, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through 2 loops
  • HDC: Half Double Crochet – Yarn over, insert hook in stitch stated, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through all 3 loops on hook
  • TC: Triple Crochet – Yarn over twice, insert hook in stitch stated, pick up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through 2 loops
  • INCR: Increase – 2 SC in 1 stitch
  • DEC: Decrease – Stitch 2 stitches together

Materials Needed for Your Crochet Crab Pattern

  • Yarn: Red and black lightweight yarn
  • Materials: Scissors, hook size 3.5, 2 black beads, needle, and some fiberfill for stuffing

Head and Body:

Will be worked in continual rounds of SC. You may like to use a stitch marker. Start with red colored yarn.

  1. Magic loop (6 sts)
  2. INCR in every st (12 sts)
  3. INCR in every 2nd st (18 sts)
  4. INCR in every 3rd st (24 sts)
  5. INCR in every 4th st (30 sts)
  6. INCR in every 5th st (36 sts)
  7. INCR in every 6th st (42 sts)
  8. INCR in every 7th st (48 sts)
  9. INCR in every 8th st (54 sts)
  10. INCR in every 9th st (60 sts)
  11. SC around in the front loop only (60 sts)
  12. SC around in the back loop only (60 sts)
  13. SC around (60 sts)
  • Pin the eyes in the head
  • Sew a V-shape with black colored yarn between the eyes (picture)
  1. DEC every 9th and 10th st together (54 sts)
  2. DEC every 8th and 9th st together (48 sts)
  3. DEC every 7th and 8th st together (42 sts)
  4. DEC every 6th and 7th st together (36 sts)
  5. DEC every 5th and 6th st together (30 sts)
  6. DEC every 4th and 5th st together (24 sts)
  7. DEC every 3rd and 4th st together (18 sts)
  8. DEC every 2nd and 3rd st together (12 sts)
  9. Stuff the doll with fiberfill
  10. DEC around (6 sts)
  11. Finish off with a SS
  12. Sew the gap

Pincers (2):

  1. Magic loop (6 sts)
  2. SC around (6 sts)
  3. INCR in every 2nd st (9 sts)
  4. SC around (9 sts)
  5. INCR in every 3rd st (12 sts)
  6. INCR in every 4th st (15 sts)
  7. SC for 4 rounds (15 sts)
  8. DEC every 4th and 5th st together (12 sts)
  9. DEC every 3rd and 4th st together (9 sts)
  10. SC for 5 rounds (9 sts)
    • Stuff the pincer with some fiberfill
  11. Finish off with a SS and sew the gap horizontally
  12. Sew the pincer on the crab’s body

Legs (6):

Will be worked in continual rounds of SC. You may like to use a stitch marker. Start with red colored yarn.

  1. Magic loop (6 sts)
  2. INCR in every 2nd st (9 sts)
  3. SC for 5 rounds (9 sts)
  4. Finish off with a SS
    • Stuff the leg with some fiberfill
  5. Sew the gap horizontally
  6. Sew the leg on the crab’s body
